چکیده

By executing different fingerprint-image matching algorithms on large data sets, it reveals that the match and non-match similarity scores have no specific underlying distribution function. Thus, it requires a nonparametric analysis for fingerprint-image matching algorithms on large data sets without any assumption about such irregularly discrete distribution functions. A precise receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve based on the true accept rate (TAR) of the match similarity scores and the false accept rate (FAR) of the non-match similarity scores can be constructed. The area under such an ROC curve computed using the trapezoidal rule is equivalent to the Mann–Whitney statistic directly formed from the match and non-match similarity scores. Thereafter, the Z statistic formulated using the areas under ROC curves along with their variances and the correlation coefficient is applied to test the significance of the difference between two ROC curves. Four examples from the extensive testing of commercial fingerprint systems at the National Institute of Standards and Technology are provided. The nonparametric approach presented in this article can also be employed in the analysis of other large biometric data sets. 2006 Pattern Recognition Society. Published by Elsevier Ltd. Studies of Operational Measurement of ROC Curve on Large Fingerprint Data Sets Using Two-Sample Bootstrap Studies of Operational Measurement of ROC Curve on Large Fingerprint Data Sets Using Two-Sample Bootstrap

From the operational perspective, on large fingerprint data sets, a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve is usually measured by the true accept rate (TAR) of the genuine scores given a specified false accept rate (FAR) of the impostor scores. The ties of genuine and/or impostor scores at a threshold can often occur on large fingerprint data sets, and how to determine the TAR at an oper...

Nonparametric Analysis of Fingerprint Data

This paper demonstrates that, for large-scale tests, the match and non-match similarity scores have no specific underlying distribution function. The forms of these distribution functions require a nonparametric approach for the analysis of the fingerprint similarity scores. In this paper, we present an analysis of the discrete distribution functions of the match and non-match similarity scores...

Operational Measures and Accuracies of ROC Curve on Large Fingerprint Data Sets

At any point on a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve in combination with two distributions of genuine scores and impostor scores, there are three related variables: the true accept rate (TAR) of the genuine scores, the false accept rate (FAR) of the impostor scores, and the threshold. Any one of these three variables determines the other two variables. The measures and accuracies of ...

Parametric and Nonparametric Regression with Missing X’s—A Review

This paper gives a detailed overview of the problem of missing data in parametric and nonparametric regression. Theoretical basics, properties as well as simulation results may help the reader to get familiar with the common problem of incomplete data sets. Of course, not all occurences can be discussed so this paper could be seen as an introduction to missing data within regression analysis an...

Comparative Dermatoglyphic Study between Autistic Patients and Normal People in Iran

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder originating from early childhood; nevertheless, its diagnosis is in older ages. In addition to heredity, environmental factors are also of great significance in the etiology of the disease. Dermatoglyphic patterns, albeit varied, remain stable for a lifetime and yield a large number of patterns upon examination. Studies have shown a significant associatio...
